Poroshenko plans parliament vote on international peacekeepers for Tuesday

If proposal is approved, Ukraine will send request to the United Nations Security Council.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko intends to hold a parliamentary vote on allowing international peacekeepers into Ukraine.

Poroshenko wants lawmakers to vote on Tuesday on the proposal, already agreed by Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council.

Two weeks ago, Poroshenko called for UN peacekeeping forces to monitor the ceasefire in east Ukraine. Existing monitoring efforts in the region by the OSCE have often been blocked by russian terrorists, most recently in Debaltseve. If the bill is approved, Ukraine will send an official request to the United Nations Security Council, where Russia wields a veto.
