Latvian PM: West not to wage Third World War because of Ukraine

Western countries refrain “from too sharp reaction” by not disconnecting Russia from the international interbank system SWIFT and avoiding military intervention in the Donbas conflict since they fear that their actions can further contribute to escalation of the conflict, says the Prime Minister of Latvia Laimdota Straujuma.

“No one is ready to start the Third World War. Germany is especially cautious in this regard. Because there is nothing more important than to engage in a dialogue and come to a consensus,” – explained PM Straujuma, cited by Delfi.lv.

Also, after visiting Kyiv, the Latvian PM has got evidence of Russia’s military involvement in the Donbas conflict.

Earlier, Poland and Latvia supported sending peacekeepers to the Donbas. Also, Latvian Defense Minister Raimonds Vejonis declared about the readiness of Latvian military to participate in peacekeeping missions in eastern Ukraine after the relevant UN Security Council and Latvian Sejm decisions.
